The Sac and Fox territories were opened for settlement by non-Native Americans through presidential proclamation on Sept. 22, 1893. Although many had leaved in the region through federal leasing or status as a member of a tribe, that date would mark the shift of land use and occupancy in the area. Local Cushing man R.C. Jones, found himself - like so many of the era - benefiting from that which was once considered worthless in the teen years of the 20th century. In oil country - in the boom towns - this meant that schools, libraries, churches, and private residences bloomed to revile any in the 'big cities'. One of the hidden marvels - reviling and exceeling many other well known residences was the Jones Mansion or, "Fairview".
